Located in a lovely, leafy spot in Witney – no matter whether you are here to work, relax, study, eat, drink or be entertained, the town and surrounding area has lots to offer. Witney is the largest of the market towns in the Oxfordshire Cotswolds and much of the architecture reflects the past prosperity of the woollen trade, including the 17th century Butter Cross and church of St Mary the Virgin with its 150ft spire.
An attractive high street runs from the Butter Cross and features the 18th century town hall, the Blanket Hall and the Victorian Corn Exchange. The town has a bustling atmosphere with a good range of shops, supermarkets and a twice weekly market. Leisure facilities can be found at the Witney Lakes Resort and the Windrush Leisure Centre. After a busy day, join us back at the pub for a plate of something delicious before resting your head.
The Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens
Exhibits over 260 different species of animals. The park is set in 160 acres of landscaped parkland and gardens 2 miles south of Burford. Not just for the children.
Burford
Burford is 7 miles from Witney and is considered the Southern gateway to the Cotswolds. A beautiful old Cotswold town, its high street enjoys beautiful views over the open countryside down to the willow fringed River Windrush in the pretty Windrush valley. A fine arched medieval bridge crosses the river at the foot of the hill. The perfect spot for coffee and mooching. The Garden Centre is definitely worth a visit, not any ordinary garden centre!
Shopping
For some serious retail therapy, Bicester Village is the perfect destination and only half an hour away from Witney. Shopaholics need look no further.
